DIY Disney Countdown Chain: Mickey Mouse

Looking forward to a Disney vacation is always exciting, especially for young mouskateers! When my children were really young, just mentioning a Disney trip in our home used to result in a constant steam of  “Is it time to leave yet?” questions. Our solution: a fun paper chain containing one link for each day. These chains are great visual references for young kids because they can easily count how many days are left before leaving. 1. Gather the Materials

For the chain you will need:

• Black, Red, Yellow, and White Construction Paper
• Chain Template
• Scissors
• Pen, Pencil, or Marker
• Glue or Staples

To make the hanger at the top, you will also need:

• Red Cardstock (more durable than construction paper)
• Topper Template
• Choice of Ribbon (to hang the countdown chain)

2. Trace Templates & Cut Out Pieces

3. Assemble the Chain

Begin with your first black band and gently fold the mouse ears forward. Continue down the chain in a repeating pattern (Black, Red, Yellow White) to make the chain as long as you need. Each link represents one day remaining until your vacation.

4. Create the Topper

Use the template to cut out the pieces and affix the sign to the cardstock.

5. Attach Hanging Ribbon

Cut a long enough piece to loop around the top of your chain and position the ribbon on the back of your topper. Use glue or tape to adhere the ribbon to the back of the topper and tie a knot in the top of the ribbon to finish.

6. Let the Countdown Begin!

Every day we remove one link from the bottom of the chain. The excitement grows larger as the link shrinks shorter!
